Halloween Costume Ideas

Mary Poppins and Bert: for Mary, all you need is a black skirt, a white button-up, a black hat (I hot-glued on some flowers), red accessories, and an umbrella//for Bert, all you need is a vest, a button-up, pants, and some charcoal for your face

It’s the most wonderful time of the year- fall!  Halloween is one of my favorite holidays because I have always loved dressing up, even though I have never bought a costume.  I have always had a closet full of costumes to choose from that are leftover from dance recitals past, but over the last few years I have also constructed costumes out of clothes from my regular closet.  You don’t have to spend a ton of money to get a killer costume!

Kiki from Miyazaki’s “Kiki’s Delivery Service:” all you need is a navy dress, a mustard colored bag, and a big red bow (and maybe a black cat and broomstick)

First things first, I always try to choose a costume that people will recognize, but I also want to choose costumes that are original.  For instance, there are probably going to be about 1,000 Harley Quinns trick-or-treating this year because of the popularity of Suicide Squad; so you might want to avoid the pig tails if you want your costume to stand out.

Bonnie and Clyde: for Bonnie, all you need is a killer vintage outfit with a hat and a gun//same thing goes for Clyde

I also try to base costumes off of things that I already own; pieces of old dance costumes that I have or stuff that I might even wear every day.  Making your own costume is so much more fun than buying one, and it guarantees that nobody else will be dressed like you.

Minnie Mouse: all you need is a polka-dot dress, mary-janes, and a red bow
